Alice's Run - Sunday 7th September 2008 (full results)
Report By Ben Beattie This was a very hilly 'Multi-Terrain' race in Mytholmroyd near Hebden Bridge. On the way to the start I immediately regretted my choice of footwear as we were starting on a rain-soaked muddy field and I was wearing racing flats. From there it got even more interesting as we ran on trail paths, over stiles and at one stage over a still smouldering camp fire. It was also the first time in a race that I have had to stop and wait while a marshal pushed the button at a pelican crossing for me to be able to cross the road. Despite or perhaps because of all this it was still great fun and I'll be back again next year.

Askern 10 - Sunday 10th August 2008
Three Striders grabbed gongs in the Yorkshire Vets Ten Mile Championships although it is noted that none of the trio are native Yorkshire born folk! In the Female Vet O/50 Carol Beattie claimed third, Mary Picksley took first place in the Female Vet O/55 category whilst Mike Savage was third in the Male Vet O/45. The overall race, which had 379 finishers, was won by A Haines of Cardiff A.C. in an impressive 50:55. Eleven Striders completed a hilly course made all the more arduous by a stiff breeze and warm weather although some of the later finishers were treated to a rather unpleasant shower.

Dartford half marathon - Sunday 20th July 2008
If you're not a climber and want to know what Mark Cavendish feels like try this one. (reference to Tour de France) Two whopping great mile long hills at 5 and 9 miles with a fast downhill finish if you've got any strength left to take advantage of the gradient. Weather warm and windy, pretty grim for distance running. All those southern accents were pretty grim too. There were 637 finishers; the winning time was 72:36.

This race was held on a dismal evening and went along some very water logged tracks: No use trying to skip around the mud and puddles, simply a matter of wading straight through!
